New phone sim card question
« on: January 27, 2023, 09:21:16 pm »
I have had my phone a few years and have been considering replacing it. Normally i just pick a phone in a shop and say i want that on pay as you go. I buy it and they do all the fiddly stuff. Now it seems they only sell junk phones on payg. Therefore i presume i need to get a sim free phone from somewhere like argos or amazon.
So it may be a dumb question but is it as straight forward as taking the sim card out of my existing phone and putting it in the new one? Will it work straight away? Or do i have to do something?
Alternatively if i choose to get a new sim card from a phone shop will that work straight away? And are sim cards free from phone shops if i dont buy anything?

If you buy a SIM free phone, just pop your existing SIM in and it should work ok.
I, the willing, led by the un-knowing, do the impossible for the ungrateful. I have done so much, for so long, with so little, that I am now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Thanks what if i decide to go with a new sim card. Well actually i probably wouldnt but i am thinking of my dad really as his phone is older than mine so while he hasnt said anything it cant be long for his too. With his phone he has had topping up problems. He cant seem to get topping up cards to work for him. In shops they would try and they would say sorry it isn't working. So hes been having to do it via the app on his phone which he doesn't like doing. So a new sim card with a new number might solve that and a good time to do that would be when getting a new phone.
