On one of our first holidays together, in Rhodes, we went to a "posh" restaurant for an expensive evening meal.  After we'd finished, and asked for the bill, we got out our wallets/purses, and both realised at the same time we'd not brought any extra money.  We both cobbled together a couple of smallish notes and some coins and realised we were nowhere near the expected amount of the bill, so quickly started to wonder about one of us getting a taxi back to our hotel to get some out of the safe (in the days before credit cards!).  We were dreading the waiter arriving with the bill and having to explain we didn't have enough money.  But when the bill came, they'd somehow forgotten to charge us for a main course and the drinks, and crazily we just had enough cash to pay it!  So we left a pile of small notes and coins, and left as quickly as we could.  A few days later, we went back for another meal and told the (same) waiter that they'd undercharged us so we paid the difference (although he was adamant we didn't have to as it was their fault) and also left a proper tip for him that time!

A good definition of 'honesty' IMHO.

I put my foot in it earlier today.

I saw a lady whom I've known for many years.  I knew that her husband has been very poorly so asked how he was.

"He passed away and the funeral is next Wednesday ..."

I wish the ground could have opened up, but she was ok about it ...
